In Mine Accident William C. Abel, 58. well-known New Philadelphia coal miner, was killed instantly about noon yesterday when he was pinned between coal loading machine and the side of the Midvale mine Columbia-Southern Chemical Co. Abel was working alone when the accident occurred but he was found almost immediately after the accident occurred by Foreman Walter Hyust and co-worker Robert Tedrick. He had just finished loading one coal buggy and was preparing to load another while the full one was removed when the fatal accident occurred. His father, John Abel, and a brother, John Abel, Jr., both lost legs in coal mine accidents. He had been employed at the Midvale mine for more than 10 years. William Carl Abel, a resident of 295 N. Broadway, was born in Sherrodsville on May 9, 1897, a son of John and Christina Moran Abel. He was a member of Sacred Heart church, the Holy Name Society, the United Mine Workers and Eagles Lodge of this city and had been a resident here 41 years. Surviving are two brothers, Aloysius and Gilbert Abel: three sisters. Mrs. James James and Miss Frances Abel, all of this city and Mrs. George Riedel of San Fernando, Calif. A brother and a sister are deceased. Eagles memorial services will be conducted at 7:30 p. m. Friday at the funeral home. Services will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart church with Requiem High Mass by the Very Rev. Fr. Ambrose L. Friday at the funeral horne.
