Jeremiah Allen, 86 years old, died at the family residence, 1335 Metropolitan Avenue, at 4:00 o'clock, Saturday afternoon.

Mr. Allen was born in Randolph County, Ill., September 6, 1846, and serviced in the Civil War as a volunteer in the 148th Illinois Infantry. Following the war, he served at different army posts over the country and came to Leavenworth in 1872 from Columbus, Ohio as a member of the 19th Infantry. He was discharged here and enlisted in the old provost guard at Fort Leavenworth, where he served ten years. Following his discharge, he was employed as a federal prison guard and served for 28 years, retiring from active service August 24, 1920, with honors.

He had been in failing health for about three years and for the past month had been confined to his bed.

He was always very proud of his army service and was active in the Civil War Veteran Organizations. He was well liked by all who knew him. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mary K. Allen, of the home address; two daughters, Mr. Edward Rack, Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Walter Jones, Indianapolis, Ind.; three sons, Jack Allen, Springfield, Ohio; Thomas Allen, Kansas City, Mo., and Walter Allen, home address; and six grandchildren.

The body has been removed to the Davis funeral church where funeral arrangements will be announced later.
