Violet Baker, 99, of Vale, Oregon, passed away on April 9, 2012.
Violet was born November 24, 1912 to Henry and Lucy Lane in Silverdale, Washington. She graduated from the Silverdale High School in 1932. The following year Violet married Alfred Schmitz and they had two sons, Jim and Jerry. Alfred died in a logging accident in 1939.
Violet then married George Baker Sept. 21, 1940. They moved from Silverdale to Vale, Oregon in 1945, where they owned a dairy farm. Their son, Richard, was born in Vale in 1948. George passed away in 1994. Three years ago she moved to Pioneer Place Assisted Living.
Violet was an active member of the Vale United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She also was a 4H leader and a Cub Scout den mother. She loved to grow flowers and often would give away beautiful bouquets. She was a master at playing Scrabble and enjoyed playing pinochle with her friends and neighbors. Her daily walks kept her healthy and fit. Her birthday celebrations were important to her because she loved visiting with all the people she had known throughout her years. She will be greatly missed by her family and her community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucy and Henry; her siblings: Ivy, Myrtle, Morris, Fritz and Bill; and her husbands: Alfred and George.
She is survived by her sons: Jim (Nina) Baker, Jerry (Judy) Baker, and Rick (Leila) Baker; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held Thursday, April 12, 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. at the Lienkaemper Chapel in Vale, Oregon. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 13 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lienkaemper Chapel, Vale. Interment will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Vale.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Vale United Methodist Church or to Heart and Home Hospice.
