Jack Roland Pearce, Sr., 74, of Taylorville passed away at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield on Monday, May 30, 2011.
He was born May 25, 1937, in Taylorville, IL, to Clyde and Mable Sisk Pearce. He married Susan Brooks on June 8, 1958, in Taylorville.
Mr. Pearce is survived by his wife, Susan; daughter, Jo Beth Pearce and son, Jack Pearce, Jr. (wife Jill); grandsons: Matthew Pearce and Jack Pearce, III, all of Taylorville; sister-in-law, Marilyn Pearce; sister and brother-in-law: Becky and Johnn Mazzotti; nieces and nephews: Clark, Jay, Clyde and Chuck Pearce, Shelli (Martin) Smith, and Lori (David) Hart; great-nieces and great-nephews: Zachary and Morgan Smith and Jordan and Tori Hart. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jarrell Clark "J.C." Pearce.
Mr. Pearce graduated from Taylorville High School in 1955 and Drake University's School of Pharmacy in 1960. He and his family owned and operated Pearce Drug for many years on the downtown square in Taylorville. Later in his professional career he was a pharmacist at Rene's Drug until his retirement in 2009.
Mr. Pearce was a compassionate man who was instilled with a strong commitment to serve and better his community. He was elected as the Christian County Coroner, an office he held for 16 years. While serving as coroner, he also was a member and past president of the Illinois Coroners and Medical Examiners Association and the Illinois Association of County Officials. He served on the Taylorville Sanitary District Board as the past president, the Taylorville Park District Board, Christian County Board, and as a precinct committeeman. He was an avid sports fan and social member of VFW Post #4495 where he enjoyed watching the games with his family and friends. Additionally, he was a member of the Moose Lodge #1516, Mound Lodge #122 A.F. & A.M., all in Taylorville and the Ansar Shrine in Springfield. He attended the Taylorville Evangelical Free Church.
Funeral services will be held at Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville, at 12 noon on Monday, June 13, 2011 with Pastor James Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow the services at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Following inurnment, lunch will be served at VFW Post #4495.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on June 13, with Masonic Rites performed at 11:45 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home.
