RUSSELL – The funeral for Wayne T. Whitmarsh Sr., 45, McGraw, Route 1, a native of Russell, was Saturday at the French Funeral Home, Edwards, with the Rev. Paul Rowley, pastor of the Russell First United Methodist Church, officiating. Spring burial will be in South Russell Cemetery.
Mr. Whitmarsh died March 4 in Cortland Memorial Hospital after suffering a heart attack.
Contributions may be made to the Moose Heart Orphanage, Main Street, Cortland.
Surviving are his wife, Celia; two sons, Wayne T. Jr., serving with the U.S. Air Force in California, and Kevin J., Cortland; a stepson, David DeYoung, McGraw; two grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. James (Muriel) Hanno, Lowville; his maternal grandmother, Dorothy Manning, Canton; four brothers, Arthur and Frederick Whitmarsh, both of Russell, Beldon Whitmarsh, Summerhill, and Sidney Whitmarsh, Homer; a sister Susan Whitmarsh, Tupper Lake, and nieces and nephews.
He was born March 30, 1945, in Russell, a son of Beldon and Muriel Manning Whitmarsh. He graduated from Knox Memorial Central School in 1964.
He married Sheila Backus of Gouverneur, Nov. 27, 1965. The marriage ended in divorce. He later married Celia DeYoung.
Mr. Whitmarsh had resided in the Cortland area for the past 25 years. He was a line operator at the Smith-Corona Co.
Mr. Whitmarsh was a member of the Cortland Moose and Eagles lodges.
