Helen H. Busch was the second daughter born to Mathias Busch and Henrietta Hampesch. Her love of muisc was fostered in the Busch home and among her extended family. She entered the convent at St. Benedict's in St. Joseph, MN in the fall of 1937 and upon beginning her novitiate was given the name Sister Armelle. She began her long ministry, first as a music teacher and organist and then in pastoral work.

Her music expertise was at the keyboard, and she received a master's degree from McPhail School of Music in Minneapolis.
