He was born May 20, 1923 in Coahoma, Texas to Ida Mae and Jess Collins. He grew up in Coahoma and graduated from Coahoma and Texas Tech. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corps in Europe. He was an aircraft radio operator during the D-Day Invasion. He married Rosemary Bristow on December 31, 1954 in San Angelo, Texas. She preceded him in death on June 13, 2007. He was a manager of the Coors Distributorship in Big Spring for over 30 years.
He is survived by one sister Dorothy Andrews of Plainview; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
In addition of his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter Cherie Dorton and one brother Jess Collins.
