He was deployed as part of a Police Advisory Team with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.

LCpl Davies and Cpl Brent McCarthy were providing security for a meeting with local officials near patrol base Attal, in the Lashkar Gah district of Helmand province, when they were shot and killed by two members of the Afghan Police Force.

Aged 27, LCpl Davies was born in Carmarthen and grew up in Cardigan. After school he was self employed before enlisting in the army in October 2009. With his fitness and professionalism, he was promoted to lance corporal within two years. He is remembered for his unfaltering sense of dedication towards his job and was extremely popular and respected among all ranks. He was also a sports fanatic, both playing and watching, and particularly enjoyed motor-sports.

Funeral with full military honours was held on May 29, 2012 at St Mary's Church, Cardigan followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium.
