Dean Henry Bollman, 84, of Albany died Saturday at his home.

Dean was born in Seattle, Wash., to Dean Stanley and Marie A. (Michea) Bollman. He was raised in Seattle and received his Bachelor's of Science in chemistry from the University of Washington in 1948. He married Frances Sullivan on Sept. 20, 1955, in Juneau, Alaska.

Dean worked in Lost River, Alaska, for a time and in Aurora, Ill., before moving to the Corvallis and Albany area where he worked at Oremet and then the US Bureau of Mines. He worked there for over 25 years, retiring in 1985. For 50 years he was a member of the American Chemical Society.

Dean was a passionate chess player and enjoyed league bowling. He was very proud to have run a marathon in 1980 at the age of 55. He enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, camping and mountain climbing, including a number of peaks in Oregon and Washington. He was a true family man and was very involved in his children's activities as they grew up.

Dean is survived by his wife, Frances Bollman of Albany; children David Bollman of Seattle, Wash., Kathleen Bowman of Albany, Michael Bollman of Bellfountain, James Bollman of Salem, and Dorothy Bollman of Springfield; six grandchildren; and brothers Victor Bollman of Aurora and Paul Bollman of Seattle.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

At the family's request no services are planned.
