Vandelia Drew Smith Mann died at the age of 81 on February 7, 2015, at her home from complications related to a recent stroke.

She was born to the late Maj. William Oliver Smith, DSC, PH, Croix de Guerre with palm (WWI & WWII) and Vandelia Elizabeth Drew, January 3, 1934, in Raleigh, NC. She was the great-granddaughter of Governor George F. Drew of Florida and the granddaughter of Dr. Charles Lee Smith of Raleigh.

Drew was a debutante at the Terpsichorean Club Ball in Raleigh in 1952. She attended Ravenscroft School, St. Joseph's Academy in St. Augustine, Florida, Salem Academy, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, St. Anne's School in Charlottesville, Virginia, St. Mary's Junior College and Salem College. She studied voice and opera for six years in Innsbruck, Austria before returning to the Raleigh. She married the late, Dr. William Marion Mann, Jr. of Enfield, NC in 1960. She was a homemaker and devoted mother to her four children and lived in Warren, PA from 1963 till her husband retired after twenty-seven years of service as a staff psychiatrist at Warren State Hospital in 1991. She relocated with her husband to Enfield, NC till 1999. After the death of her husband she returned to Raleigh, NC.

Drew was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of North Carolina, Daughters of the American Revolutions and The First Families of North Carolina.

Drew is survived by her brother, William Oliver Smith, Jr. and his wife, Margaret Maxwell Smith as well as her four children: Teressa Mann, William Marion Mann III, Benjamin Denton Mann IV and Dr. William Oliver Mann. She is also survived by her three grandchildren: Caroline Victoria Mann, Monica Elizabeth Mann and William Oliver Mann, Jr.

The family will receive friends at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home at 300 St. Mary's Street, Raleigh, NC on Friday, February 13th from 1 – 2 PM. A memorial service will follow beginning at 2pm in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be private.
