Russell R. Hirt, 61, Iowa City, died Friday at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness.
Born June 20, 1920, at Sharon Township, Johnson County, he was married to Helen M. White on May 16, 1941, at Iowa City.
The Hirts farmed in Sharon Township until 1961 when they moved to Iowa City. Mr. Hirt became involved in real estate sales and for the last 13 years was a partner in the Frantz-Hirt Agency. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Elks Lodge, the Iowa City Board of Realtors, the Johnson County "I" Club and the Iowa City Chamber of Commerce. He was past president of the Iowa City Multiple Listing Service and the City High Boosters.
Survivors in addition to his wife are two sons, Steven and James, both of Iowa City; two brothers, Stanley of Hills and Gerald of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and two sisters, Ruby Armstrong of Chadron, Neb. and Eileen Adler of Elyria, Ohio.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday at George L. Gay Funeral Home in Iowa City. Burial: Memory Gardens, Iowa City. Friends may call after noon Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials donations may be given to the Mercy Hospital Foundation, Iowa City.
