L. Allene Boyd, 86, of Calvary Fellowship Homes, Lancaster, PA, formerly of Colora, MD, entered into rest on May 15, 2012 at Hospice of Lancaster County, Essa Florry Inpatient Unit. She was born in Oxford, PA on July 21, 1925 to the late J. Harvey Pollock and Lydia E. Brown Pollock Wilson Malone.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years, John Wesley Boyd. She is survived by three children: John W. Boyd Jr. and wife, Karen L. (Dunn) of Rising Sun, MD; Sue B. and husband, Rev. Haan A. Phelps of Beloit, OH; and David H. Boyd and wife, Karen (Merritt) of Willow Street, PA; her brother, James D. Wilson and wife, Beverly (Eaton) of Delta, PA; four grandchildren: Sonya D. Bailey and Colin of Ft. Worth, TX; Aaron J. Boyd and Kristin of Elkton, MD; Joshua D. Boyd and Deb of Lancaster, PA; and Rachel E. Boyd of Lancaster, PA; five great grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

After graduating from Oxford High School in 1943, she worked at Bainbridge Naval Base until her marriage in February 1944. Once her children were in school, Allene went back to work as the secretary at Rising Sun Elementary School, retiring in 1980. In retirement, Allene was able to spend more time pursuing her passion for family history and genealogy.

Allene was a longtime member of West Nottingham Presbyterian Church serving as a Trustee and as secretary of the Cemetery Committee. She enjoyed singing in church choirs all her life and playing in the Bell Choir. Allene touched many lives with her caring concern and will be remembered for her ability to make friends wherever she went.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 17, 2012 in West Nottingham Presbyterian Church, Colora, MD, where family and friends may call beginning at 12:30 pm. Burial will follow at West Nottingham Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the benevolent fund at Calvary Fellowship Homes or Hospice of Lancaster County, c/o R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD 21911.
