Norma Jean Vickers, 72, died on Monday, May 14, 2012, at a Nampa care facility.

She was born May 18, 1939 in Filer, Idaho to Charles Price Vickers and Margaret Cortner Vickers. The divorce of her parents when she was three years old resulted in a move to Twin Falls, then to Henderson, Nevada to the first stepfather situation, then back to Twin Falls, then to Tullahoma, Tennessee, then Twin Falls, and then to a farm about halfway between Gannett and Picabo, Idaho to a second stepfather situation.

She attended school in Bellevue, Idaho from the third grade through the eighth grade. The ninth grade was in Seattle, the tenth grade at Bellevue, Idaho and the eleventh and twelfth grades were at Montrose, Colorado, where she graduated from high school in 1957.

After high school graduation she moved to Boise, Idaho, attended Links Business College and went to work for Boise-Payette (later Boise Cascade). She was enthusiastic about her job and did a lot of work. In December 1973, she got a Bachelor degree in Business Administration at BSU. She worked for Boise Cascade about 17 years.

Norma had a good sense of humor and was generous and good hearted. She would give people money to help them out even when it made her short of money. She took her sister, Mary, in when she couldn't live at home with her husband and children anymore. Later she also took in an older woman who couldn't live by herself.

About 1975 she found out she had multiple sclerosis. She was able to drive and get around for many years, but when the disease finally took hold, she didn't complain, she just dealt with it the best she could and remained positive.

August 18, 2011, she was told she had a 6 cm glioma (tumor) in her brain. September 13th the glioma was removed. It was a grade 4 which is the worst kind. Gliomas can be slowed, but not stopped. She was treated with radiation, and another MRI showed that the tumor was coming back. Since the radiation had caused her problems. there was no more that could be done. She remained positive to the end.

Norma never married. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepparents and one sister, Mary E. Featherston Masonholder.

She is survived by three brothers, Larry E. Featherston, of Heyburn, Fred W. Featherston, of Boise, and George A. Vickers, of Payette.

Special appreciation is expressed to Wenona Ellis for checking on Norma, taking care of her mail, advising her, and encouraging her. Thanks also to Lorrie Parrish and the staff at Sunny Ridge Rehabilitation and Retirement Center in Nampa, and to Harrison's Hope Hospice of Meridian.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2012, with viewing beginning at12 noon at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, 5400 Fairview Avenue in Boise. Burial will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery, where Norma will be buried next to her sister, Mary.
