OKEECHOBEE - Harley C. Arnold age 90, a lifetime resident of Okeechobee died Tuesday, May 15, 2012 in the Hamrick Home Hospice. He was born August 21, 1921 in Okeechobee, to William Easton "Uncle Son" & Mittie L. (Raulerson) "Aunt Mittie" Arnold. Mr. Arnold worked for the Belcher Oil Company which helped build Highway 441 and Highway 70 in Okeechobee. He was very involved with the Flying B Ranch as well as the cattle and ranching industry. Later he became a dragline operator for the County of Okeechobee in which he worked and retired after 30 years. His love for Bluegrass Music is well known in Okeechobee. He played, mentored and gave lessons in Bluegrass music. He enjoyed Okeechobee History and loved to train horses. He was a devoted and faithful member of the Missionary Baptist Church for over 45 years. Mr. Arnold was a loving and devoted father. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Ruth Lorena Thomas Arnold; brothers, Elroy, Noel, Rufus "Uncle Bully", Robert, and Freeman; sisters, Irena and Viola. He is survived his son, Kenneth Arnold (Patsy); daughter, Phyllis Bass (Tim) all of Okeechobee; grandchildren, Rodney, Michelle and Roger; great grandchildren, Logan, Chase, Taylor, Kaylie, Brooke, Jessica and Harlee; sister in-law, Lucille Arnold of Sneads; and many loving nephews, nieces, cousins and family. Service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, May 19, 2012 in the Okeechobee Missionary Baptist Church, where the family will receive friends one hour prior. Brother Lindel Selvey and Brother Charles Colborn will be officiating and interment will follow in Basinger Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Okeechobee, P.O. Box 1548, Okeechobee, FL 34973. All arrangements are entrusted to the loving care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory, 110 NE 5th Street, Okeechobee, FL. On-line condolences may be made at www.buxtonfuneralhome.com.

Harley was a wonderful and dearly loved local character in Okeechobee. He loved and worked tirelessly on his family genealogy. The one important task that he was unable to accomplish was locating his grandmother Charity Long's gravesite.
