Mrs. , 94, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday morning, May 16, 2012, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Badgett was born September 17, 1917, in Gaston County, the daughter of the late Mike and Sally Clemmer Kiser. After graduating from Appalachian State Teachers' College, where she was a star basketball player, Blanche moved to Mount Airy to teach at Flat Rock School and coach the girl's basketball team. She spent her entire teaching career of 40 years at Flat Rock. She married Burton Edgar Badgett during World War II and lived in Austin, TX, until his discharge from the United States Armed Forces. She is survived by a daughter, Linda Badgett Warren of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Florence Badgett of Mount Airy; three grandsons, Brian Warren and Michael Warren, both of Mount Airy, and Eric Warren and his wife, Christie, of Mooresville; three stepgrandchildren, Bobby Cooke of Mount Airy, Donna Abelson of Greensboro, and Cathy Garner of Shelby; six great-grandchildren, Austin, Laken, Hadley, and Emerson Warren, all of Mount Airy, and Eric Jr. and Emily Warren, both of Mooresville; and a sister, Hazel Ratchford of Dallas. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Badgett was preceded in death by her husband, Burton Edgar Badgett; a stepgrandchild, Johnny Cooke; two sisters, Eunice Kiser and Merle Hovis; and two brothers, Oscar Kiser and Burley Kiser. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 18, 2012, at 3:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Steve Lindsley officiating. A private interment will be held at a later time for the immediate family at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:30 until 3:00 PM in the Ladies' Parlor at First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to the Blanche Gwyn/Carter Men's Class Scholarship Endowment Fund, First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1286, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
