Obadiah Campbell Jr, son of Obadiah Campbell Sr. (1740-1819) and Mary Updyke - Updike (1742-1801).
Husband of Elizabeth Shipman (1787-1866) father of ten known children. A farmer who migrated from Sussex- Warren Co., N.J. to Elysburg, Ralpho Twp., Northumberland Co., area with his family abt. 1799.
Obadiah Jr. operated a sawmill near Elysburg out toward the Roaring Creek area, near Knoebel's. Inherited about 400 acres from his father Obadiah Sr.. One of the founding members of Elysburg Presbyterian Church that came out of the Shamokin Church. The Campbell's were noted for their fine singing voices. The Campbell family are also well noted in the histories of Northumberland Co., and Bell's Biographies of Northumberland County Pennsylvania.

NOTE On YEAR BORN: Obadiah's stone list's, 87yrs, 1m. 7days, this would put his birth yr as 1779.

NOTE ON THE PHOTOGRAPH: Submitted by David Klees. The Cartes de visite photograph ID as Obadiah Campbell Jr. passed down through Obadiah's son, James Jackson Campbell,(1829-1907) and was ID by a Grandson of James Jackson Campbell. The time period is correct for 1866-1868, however this is not a man age 87 who is almost 90 yrs old. The gentleman in the photo is still firm and youthful of flesh in the face and hands. His age appears to be mid to late 50's. I do not agree that this is Obadiah Campbell Jr.
