TRAVERSE CITY — Robert "Bob" L. Rancour, 76, of Traverse City, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Munson Medical Center. He was born Aug. 4, 1935, in Highland Park to Ephraim and Mary (Gordon) Rancour.He graduated from Buckley High School in 1954.On May 3, 1958, Bob married Karla Kay Bartz at St. Mary Hannah Catholic Church. Together they raised four children.Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Frankfort, Germany, where he worked as a military policeman.When he returned home he attended the Michigan State Police Academy and worked for Traverse City Police for many years. Bob received his degree in Metallurgy from NMC and worked for Sheffer-Colliet as a machinist. He retired from the Northport Post office after 19 years of service, where he worked as a clerk.Bob was a member of the MLPCA and the ALPCA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and antiques. He especially loved military memorabilia. Bob was a dedicated Michigan sports fan.He was a lifelong resident of Traverse City and was known for his generosity and kind heart. He will be missed.Bob will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Kay Rancour; four children, Jeffery (Lysa) Rancour, of Boynton Beach, Fla., Thomas (Susan) Rancour, of Gulliver, Angel (Bryan) Kanonik, of Boca Raton, Fla., and Nicholas Rancour, of Delray Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Cole, Michael, Brittaney, Savannah, Sierra, Sage, Brooke and Meghan; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by sisters, Bonnie Jeanne Purcelli, Dorothy Rondo, Donna Rondo, Marian Davis, Audrey Harrand and Roberta Shellswell; and a brother, Clark Rancour.
A visitation will be held Thursday, May 17, 2012, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City. A funeral will be held Friday, May 18, 2012, also at the funeral home, at 1 p.m. Burial will take place in Monroe Center.
