Cody Levi Chronic, 21, 13278 N. 320th Rd., Casey, passed away as the result of injuries he sustained in a single vehicle accident at 3:30 Saturday, Sept. 4.

Chronic was born Dec. 1, 1977 in Effingham, the son of Douglas Allen Chronic and Annetta Sue Ruffner Chronic. Cody was a drummer in the Casey Jazz Band and he played football all four years of his high school career. He was a member of the Four Horseman. A 1995 graduate of Casey High School, he was a student at Eastern Illinois University, Charleston.

A large crowd of friends, old and young, attended visitation held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today, Sept. 7. at Markwell and Son Funeral Home of Casey with the Rev. Jim Rue officiating. Special music included "Time,” “Stairway To Heaven,” and "Tears In Heaven.” Burial followed in the Hazel Dell Cemetery, south.

Pallbearers were Cory Fran Jason and Ryan Mumford, Vinny Nowarita, Blaine Kelly, Mike Honselman, Jon Ruffner, Bryan Wattleworth, Steven Killion, and Steve Cutright.

Cody was survived by his parents of Casey; a sister, Bailey Jo Chronic at home; paternal grandparents Willard "Bill" and Shirley Chronic; paternal grandfather Robert W. Green: several aunts and uncles, Jack and Norma Ruffner, Art and Nancy Hepner, Gary and Marilyn Wattleworth, Earl and Marie Ruffner, Bobby K. and Gail Green, Pat and Ilah Welsch, Lori Burnett, Sherri Chronic, and Willard and Sue Chronic; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents William H. Ruffner Jr. and Freda Ruffner Green.

The family suggests, for those who wish, memorials may be made to the Casey High School Jazz Band in care of the Casey High School, 306 E. Edgar Ave., Casey, Ill., 62420.
