Earnest E. "Ernie" Long, 80 of Arkansas City died Thursday, May 17, 2012 at his residence surrounded by family and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Monday, May 21, 2012 at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City. Interment will follow in the Parker Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ernie was born June 5, 1931 to Earnest Lee Long and Ethel Birdy (Crow) Long in Alderson, OK. After receiving his education in the McAlester area, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1953. On May 29, 1954 he married L. Lavon Weiher in McAlester, OK where they made their home until moving to Arkansas City in 1966. Ernie began employment at GE Engine Services in 1967 and worked until his retirement in 1992. While there, he made several friends with his charm and captivating smile. Ernie's passion for fishing was second only to being with his family. He enjoyed hunting but he only hunted if it was too cold to fish.

Ernie was a dedicated husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lavon Long of the home; sons, Ronald "Ron" Long and companion, Annette Roach, Kevin Long and companion, Amy Robins all of Arkansas City; adopted son, David Hamilton and wife, Mary of Wellington; sisters, Ellis E. Haney of Arkansas City and E. Earlene Smith of Oxford; four grandchildren, Amber Stebbins and husband, Travis of Arkansas City, Adrian Long and wife, Jayme of Brownsburg, IN, Brandon Long and Tori Scott and her husband, Wesley all of Arkansas City; two great grandchildren who were the bright spot in his heart~Lakyn Stebbins and Chloe Stebbins both of Arkansas City. Several nieces and nephews.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Elias E. Long and Estes E. Long; and sister Eda E. Brown.
