NEWPORT NEWS - Stanley R. Higgins Sr., 95, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003, in Newport News.
He was a native of Trenton, N.J., and had been a resident of Newport News for 55 years.
Mr. Higgins retired from the USAAF Exchange Service at Ft. Eustis and was formerly employed by Newport News Parks and Recreation. He was a member of Morrison United Methodist Church.
Preceded in death by his son, Stanley R. Higgins Jr., he is survived by his wife, Florence J. Higgins; two sons, William A. Higgins and his wife, Sylvia, of Valdosta, Ga., and Louis H. Higgins and his wife, Sandra, of Newport News; two sisters, Dorothy Hartman and Joan Shelton, both of Florida; one brother, Arnold W. Higgins of Florida; a daughter- in- law, Rose Higgins; two brothers-in-law, Dr. Hugh McQuoid, and J.D. Jamison and his wife, Jane; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted noon Monday at the funeral home by Rev. Delia Parrish and burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
