Born near Ballymoney, Co. Antrim.
In the 80th yr of her age.

BY BRIAN MCLAUGHLIN:
NOTE: Ann was married to Hugh Lyons, most sources say, and we're pretty sure her father's name was John (our family bible has that) but it might be James. Her grandfather's name is Joseph Knox in our family bible entry. Ann's cemetery stone said she was born near Ballymoney, County Antrim, Ireland. According to the History of Randolph Co, IL, Ann's sons John and Joseph Lyons were farmers and came to Randolph County in 1842. Archibald was also a son of hers, and Ann (Lyons) McLaughlin lived in Randolph Co. for a short time in the mid 1840s before ending up in Marion County, Illinois.

Our family lore says that this line of Lyons came to America in the early 1840s and likely came through New Orleans. They apparently "left for political reason" and "left Ireland under the veil of darkness". They were Covenanters, and may have come from an area as specific as Drumaheglis near Ballymoney.
