Margery P. Hickerson, Abingdon Chapel age 85 formerly of Abingdon, passed away at 4:20 pm Sunday, May 20, 2012 at the Marigold Rehab and Health Care Center in Galesburg.
She was born on April 23, 1927 in rural Abingdon, the daughter of Dean and Hazel (Niles) Allen. She married Harold M. Hickerson in August of 1945. They later divorced.
Marge is survived by two daughters, Marcia (and Mike) Morris of Oneida and Kathleen Roberts of Abingdon; one son, Harold Dean Hickerson of Abingdon; six grandchildren, Jerry (and Julie) Baker of Avon, Kim (and Eric) Isaacson of Plainfield, Tina (and Steve) Collette of New Berlin, Wisconsin, Shawn (and Cathy) McClure of Oswego, Daphne (and Shea) Fox of Manchester, Missouri, and Heather Hickerson of Peoria; two step-grandchildren, Diane (and Fred) Andrews of Abingdon, and Bryan Morris of Normal; nine great-grandchildren, Acacia and Kyanne Baker, Amanda and Emily Collette, Peyton and Ryan Isaacson, Declan McClure, and Brandon and Hannah Fox; two step-great-grandchildren, Lucas and Kayann Andrews; and one sister, Ruby (and James) Mitchell of Avon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Kevin Gene Hickerson, and one grandson, Kevin Baker.
She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1945. She had lived in the Abingdon area all her life. She worked in the cafeteria at Hedding Grade School in Abingdon and later worked as the parts person at Neff Company in Avon for many years. During the summer, she was a cook at the former Camp Shaubena at Lake Bracken for the 4-H clubs and Boy Scouts who used the camp. She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church. Her hobbies included gardening, bird watching, fishing and she was a true nature lover.
Cremation was accorded. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Darryl McDaniel and Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. There will be no visitation.
