He enlisted in the 1st KY Calvary Co.C in 1861.
Jasper was captured by the Confederate Army and placed in Prison in Virginia. He and some other men escaped while being transferred by train to Georgia.
Jasper's Sergeant wrote a book about the Companies participation in the Civil War and this is all documented in the book titled "Wild Riders of the 1st KY Calvary" written by Sergeant Tarrant.
Jasper later rejoined his company in August of 1864 and mustered out in December 1864.
