Moving to Toledo, Ohio, with several of his siblings, Paul took up a career as a conductor with the now-defunct New York Central System Railroad, which had him frequently criss-crossing the region. The railroad regularly found him in Fostoria, where he met Doris Reva Aumaugher, eventually marrying her on June 15, 1920. A member of the Shriners in his youth, Paul and Doris were able to take advantage of the Zenobia Shrine's North American pilgrimage tour to embark on an extended honeymoon throughout Canada and the American west during the summer of 1920.
Paul was mostly self-taught, reading the Encyclopedia Britannica cover-to-cover and learning a little bit about everything in the process.
He and Doris moved to Toledo where they brought up a family that included five children, Jean (1922 - 2015), Ray (1925 - 2007), Marveline (1926 - 2012), Onalee (1929 - 2015), and Beverly. Paul retired from the railroad on September 29, 1956, allowing he and Doris more time to do what they loved best: travel. Throughout their lives, Paul and Doris managed to visit every state of the union with the exception of Alaska.
Doris died in 1977 and Paul moved into the Colonial Nursing Home in Toledo soon after, where he passed away on October 10, 1980, at the age of eighty-nine.
