Private Zachary Chenoweth served in the 18th Virginia Cavalry Regiment, Company A. He was captured in March 1864 in the Cheat Mountain area after an encounter with the Union West Virginia Home Guard (Swamp Dragons) and was sent to Camp Chase, Ohio as a prisoner of war. He would be paroled in May 1865.
Zachary was buried in the Baker cemetery with his wife. There is also a memorial stone for him in the Beverly Cemetery
