Z.T. Chenoweth died at Beverly last Sunday. Deceased was born September 13, 1847 and was one of a family of thirteen children. At the age of sixteen he enlisted in the Confederate Army and served until 1863, when he was captured by the Union Army and remained a prisoner until near the end of the war. He was Sheriff of Randolph County from 1884 to 1889 and was interested in various business enterprises.

Private Zachary Chenoweth served in the 18th Virginia Cavalry Regiment, Company A. He was captured in March 1864 in the Cheat Mountain area after an encounter with the Union West Virginia Home Guard (Swamp Dragons) and was sent to Camp Chase, Ohio as a prisoner of war. He would be paroled in May 1865.

Zachary was buried in the Baker cemetery with his wife. There is also a memorial stone for him in the Beverly Cemetery
