Lester O. Smith, Sr., 89, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 30, 2004. He was the youngest of eight children born to Jacob and Edna Smith on March 15, 1915 in Oregon, Wisconsin. Lester married Adaline Losey in 1936. In 1942 they moved to Arizona with their young family, hauling all their belongings behind their car in a small trailer. During World War II they worked at Goodyear, building airplanes for the war efforts. In the post war boom of Phoenix they started a septic tank company with only $900. This small company grew to become Smith Pre-Cast, the largest septic tank and manhole company in Arizona. After retirement in 1970, he pursued his greatest pleasures: hunting, fishing and traveling. He married his second wife Ann Roberts, May 1990. He cherished her companionship to his last days. He is survived by his wife, Ann, sons Lester, Jr., of Cortes Junction, Dale (Pat) of Laveen and daughter Karen (Jerry) Smith of Mesa, grandsons and granddaughters Scott, Carson, Kenneth, Carolyn, Tara and Stephnie and 11 great grandchildren. Viewing and visitation is Tuesday, July 6th, from 6-8pm at Camelback Sunset Chapel, 301 W. Camelback Rd., Phoenix.
