Merl was the owner of Tropical Fish and Supplies in North East. He was also employed at the Lewis Wagner, Carlton and Fred Luke grape farms for several years. He attended Fairview High School and lived in North East for 50 years. He served with the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. He was a member of the North East Cemetery Association and the North East American Legion Post 105. He enjoyed carpentry and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Harriett Ruth Bendure Stuntz; a granddaughter, Kala Stuntz; a brother, Carl Stuntz; and a sister, Dorothy Platz.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay Newton and her husband, Lawrence, of North East, and Carol Gibson and her husband, John, of Corona, Calif.; six sons, David Stuntz of Pinellas Park, Fla., John Rhodes and Allan Stuntz, both of Erie, Denis Stuntz of North East, Dean Stuntz and his wife, JoAnne, of Cape Carl, Fla., and Donald Stuntz of Arizona; 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Burial with military honors will be at North East Cemetery.
