STRANGE POISON CAUSE OF DEATH OF GEO. BOTKIN
Found groaning on floor at his home by a neighbor of some kind of systemic poisoning which the attending physician is unable to define, brought almost instant death to George Botkin, 58 years old, at 9:10 o’clock Thursday evening at his home, 803 West Chestnut street. The deceased leaves his wife, one son, Hugh, of this city and two daughters, Mrs. Florence Bricker and Mrs. Carl Horlacher. Mr. Botkin and his daughter, Mrs. Bricker, were returning home about 8:30 o’clock in the evening and, upon entering the house, Mrs. Bricker gave her father a package to take into the house, while she went to a grocery near their home. Mrs. Katherine Kilkenney, one of the neighbors, heard Mr. Botkin groaning shortly after that time and was on the point of attempting to discover the cause of the groans when she met Mrs. Bricker returning. Together the women entered the house and found the man lying on the floor unconscious, the floor around him being practically wet with perspiration.
Mr. Botkin was carried to a couch and a physician was called. The man died before he regained consciousness, the poison which had been forming in his system, bringing death in several minutes. The funeral at 1:30 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the late home, Rev. O. E. Ford officiating.
