West Bend News. Thurs. July 29, 1958, p. 1, c. 8. Barton Child, Hit By Truck Driven By Father, Dies. Injuries Fatal to 2-Year-Old Twin. Rodney Lee Bechler, 2-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome (Jerry) Bechler of Barton, died at St. Joseph's hospital in West Bend at approximately 4:50 p.m. Friday of injuries suffered at approximately 11:20 a.m. Friday when he apparently ran behind a panel truck driven by his father which was being backed out of the driveway at the family home in Barton. Young Rodney suffered a basal skull fracture and his condition was termed critical at the hospital, but hope was held for his recovery. Rodney has a twin brother, Ronald. There are eight other children in the Bechler family in addition to the twins. The death of the Bechler twin was recorded as a highway fatality, making the 14 death on county streets and highways in Washington County for the current year, 1958. Funeral services For Rodney will be held at 2 P.m. today (Tuesday) at St. John's Lutheran church in West Bend. The body was in state after 2 p.m. Monday at he Techtman-Myrhum funeral home in Barton until 11 a.m. today and will lie in state at the church from noon until the time of services. The Rev. W.P. Sauer will conduct the funeral services. Young Rodney was born July 8, 1956 in West Bend. He is survived by his parents, five sisters, Doris, Yvonne, Barbara, Mary and Bonny and four brothers, Dennis, Donald, Richard and his twin brother Ronald. Also surviving are his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kempf, Sr. of West Bend and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Bechler of Campbellsport and the paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Ida Schwartz of Madison.
