Frances Smalley Mitscher, 92
Mrs Frances Smalley Mitscher, wife of late Admiral Marc A Mitscher, will be interred beside her husband in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia during graveside services January 7.
Mrs Mitscher, born in Tacoma, Washington in 1890, died in a Coronado convalescent home on December 20 after a long illness.
Mrs Mitscher moved to Coronado, California from Norfolk, Virginia following the death in 1947 of her husband while he was on active duty as commander-in-chief of the Atlantic Fleet.
The couple previously had lived in San Diego when as commander of Fast Carrier Attack Force 58. Admiral Mitscher led the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier forces across the Pacific Ocean from 1943 to 1945. Mitscher Field at Miramar Naval Air Station is named in honor of the late admiral.
Mrs Mitscher is survived by a niece.
