From the Waterloo (IA) Courier, May 28, 1890:

Wedding Bells

The home of John Averill, corner 9th and Washington streets in this city, was merry with wedding chimes last Tuesday evening, May 20th. At that time, in the presence of a large company of friends and neighbors, his daughter, Miss Effie, was given away in marriage to Mr. Harold L. Thompson, of Akron, Iowa. The knot was beautifully and impressively tied by the bride's pastor, Rev. W. F. Barclay, of the 1st M. E. church. The presents were more than commonly numerous and beautiful. Both of the contracting parties are natives of this county. Both come of excellent stock and are well fitted, both by birth and education, to fill responsible stations in life. The wedded pair left the next day for their new home at Akron. The best wishes of a host of friends follow them.

From the Brookings County (SD) Press, January 26, 1939:

Mrs. Effie L. Christianson died at her home in Bushnell at 6 o'clock Monday evening as the result of a stroke. She was 70 years of age and had been ailing for a number of years.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock this (Thursday) afternoon in Rude's funeral chapel, the Rev. Elston Knight of the Church of Christ, officiating. Burial was made in Greenwood.

One daughter, Mrs. Ruth Johnson of Madison, three sons, Lee A. Thompson of Glendive, Montana, Clifford Thomas [sic] of Canby, Minn., and Lowell Thompson of Arlington and a step-son, Adolph Christianson of Duluth, Minn., survive her. A son Clayton, preceded her in death.

Effie Leona Averill was born in Waterloo, Iowa, in 1868. She grew up there and in 1890, was married to Harold L. Thompson. In 1909 they came to South Dakota where they lived on a farm north of Brookings. Mr. Thompson died in 1911 and she was married to Nels Christianson of Hendricks, Minnesota, in 1917. They lived for a time in northern Minnesota and Spooner, Wisconsin, and in 1931 they moved to Bushnell. Mr. Christianson died September 6, 1937.
