Mae was the fourth of five children born to James Robert Brown (1846 VA - 1914) and Sarah Ellen McSherry (1861-1940) who married on 3 Nov. 1881 in Owen Co., IN.

Mae's siblings were Myrtie (b.1882), Clarence H. (1883-1979), Caddie L. (1884-1950), May here in 1888, and Minnie Alice (1892-1929).

I found the family on the 1900 and 1910 Census living in Harrison, Kosciusko Co., Indiana where James was farming for a living.

On 16 July, Mae married Elmer Ellsworth Brodbelt (also found "Broadbelt" spelling) in Warsaw, Kosciusco Co. They had two children together--Minnie M. (b.1911) and Glen E. (b.1914).

Somtime before 1919, Lillie and Elmer divorced. I found whom I think is Elmer on the 1920 Census, divorced, living in Harrison, Kosciusko Co. with Merle and Elizabeth Yocum.

Lillie married for a second time on 18 Oct. 1919 to Charles "Charley" Bishop in Kosciusko Co. Charley was also divorced from his first wife, Flora Kyser.

Mae and Charley took up residence in Union (today Culver) where I found them on the 1920 Census, newly married and with Mae's two children Minnie and Glen. Charley was still making a living as a stone mason.

By 1930, Mae and Charley had welcomed five children of their own--Wilma F. (b.1921), Wayne W. (1922-1997), Iris L. (b.1925), Russell Charles (1926-2011), and Louis B. (1928-1977). Charley was working as a "yard man" at a "hotel". Mae's son Glen, then aged 16, was living and working in Union as a clerk at a hotel owned by Schuyler C. Shilling. I couldn't find a marriage record for Mae's daughter Minnie nor a Census record for her after 1920.

Charley and Mae had another daughter, Norma Jean (1931-1993).

After Charley died in 1931, I found Mae on the 1940 Census, widowed, and still living in Union with their five youngest children. At the time of her death in 1960 Mae was in Rochester Nursing Home in Fulton Co., Indiana. She lived to celebrate her 72nd birthday on 3 Dec. 1960, and died the next day.
