John Benjamin Thorington died suddenly at his home in Sage township Sunday morning about six o'clock, August 20, 1922. He said that he was not feeling well so he got up, dressed and said that perhaps he would feel better if he walked around a little. Later Mrs. Thorington got up and found him lying dead on the dinning room floor.

Mr. Thorington was born in Midland county Feb. 11, 1869, and was married to Ida May Welch July 9, 1888. Five children, three sons and two daughters, were born to them. The oldest son Benjamin Harris was killed while fighting for his country in France Sept. 29, 1918.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, John and Orland of Sage township, two daughters, Mrs. Bernard Robbins of Grand Ledge, and Mrs. Ernest Nunn of Beaverton township, seven grandchildren, his mother, Mrs. Benjamin Thorington of Coleman, one brother, Justus A. Thorington of Winegar, four sisters, Mrs. Ida Coons, Maggie Thorington and Mrs. John McTaggert of Coleman and Mrs. Allie Anderson of Midland.

Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 conducted by Rev. E. T. Smith followed by interment in Highland cemetery. Services were conducted at the grave by the I.O.O.F. of which he was a member. Gladwin County Record dated 8-24/1922 Column – 4 Page – 5.
