Ellen L. Barnes, 87, of Kearney, MO, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2003, at her home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at Northern Hills Baptist Church; burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kearney. Friends may call 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Fry Chapel, Kearney. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Liberty Hospital Hospice or the Northern Hills Baptist Church. Ellen was born March 13, 1916, in Cedar County, MO, the daughter of Stonewall Jackson and Emma Mae (Tabor) Burbeck. Ellen was united in marriage to Henry William Barnes on December 24, 1934. They made their home in Kearney. Ellen was a practical nurse and worked in several nursing homes, among them the I.O.O.F. home in Liberty. In 1962, Ellen and Mr. Barnes moved to Michigan, where she lived until moving back to Kearney in 1976. While in Michigan, she worked for the Heath Company, making electrical kits. Ellen was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, six sisters and two brothers, her sons, Larry D. and Glen A. Barnes, as well as two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Ellen is survived by a daughter, Connie Greer and her husband, Charles, Lathrop, MO; two sons, James Barnes and his wife, Connie, Holt, MO, and Jack Barnes and his wife, Sue, of St. Joseph, MI; 10 granddaughters; five grandsons; 22 great-granddaughters; 20 greatgrandsons; four great-greatgranddaughters; and seven great-greatgrandsons. She will be forever missed by her family and friends.
