Emerson Allen Sweeten was born in Wallace, Perth, Ontario on Apr 13, 1886. He was the first child of Edward and Annie Mary (Renshaw) Sweeten. When his father came out to Kualt (Tappen), B.C. for his health in 1902, Emerson came with him. On Jul 3,1916 Emerson married Evelyn McCurdy, born in Ireland, whose family also lived in the Shuswap Lake area. He worked at a variety of jobs - among them mining, logging and saw filing. The family, which included three sons - Edward, Ronald and Allen, lived in Jordan River, Britannia Beach, Vancouver, Burnaby and finally, Great Central near Port Alberni on Vancouver Island. On Jan 13, 1951 Emerson died. He was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Port Alberni, B.C.
