Died: Freeburg, Snyder County, PA

The son of Jacob & Christiana (Wolf) Arndt, in 1860 he was a brick maker living in Liverpool Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 5" tall and had dark hair and hazel eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he served with Co. D, 115th Pennsylvania Infantry, but has no readily available enlistment data because he was dropped from the rolls after being charged with desertion. (An 1897 investigation revealed that he had been ill from about November 2, 1862, until March 30, 1863, and the War Department remitted the desertion charge.) He also enlisted and mustered into federal service at Philadelphia February 11, 1864, as a private with Co. I, 17th Pennsylvania Cavalry (162nd Pa). On June 17, 1865, he transferred to Co. I, 2nd Pennsylvania Provisional Cavalry as part of a war-end consolidation, and honorably discharged with his company August 7, 1865.

He married Barbara E. Stroup in 1876; children: Harrison Daniel (b. 11/07/78, James Monroe (B. 03/23/82), Anna M. (b. Oct 1884 - married Wilson A. Forey), Emma (b. 01/??/87), and Irene (b. 09/??/90)
