Alpha Lee (Sammons) Copeland died at Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. Funeral services were First Baptist Church in Maud with Rev. Bob Birdwell and Rev. Jim Kirkendall officiating. Copeland was born to Willie Ogustus Sammons and Nellie Vivian (Old) Sammons Young. She lived most of her life Maud. She graduated from high school in 1934. She was member of the First Baptist Church in Maud where she was a Sunday school teacher. She was associated with the Maud Historical Society. Copeland was a homemaker and co-owner of Copeland's IGA in Maud. She worked for Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home. She married to Finis Earl Copeland in Maud on July 7, 1934; he preceded her in death on May 7, 1992. She died the day before her 70th wedding anniversary. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, William Edward Sammons, who died in 1963; and one sister Ellouise Sammons, who died in 1919. Copeland was survived by two sons, Roger Allan Copeland, Ft. Worth, Texas, Gary Earl Copeland, Norfolk, Va.; two grandchildren, Jeremy Scott Copeland, Dallas, and Kami Copeland Swinney, Euless, Texas. Pallbearers included David Zeller, James Zeller, Jeremy Copeland, Barry Fletcher, Rick Carlson and Glenn Whisenhunt. Honorary casketbearers will be the deacons of the First Baptist Church in Maud.
