Death Summons E. W. Butterfield At Libertyville
Libertyville lost another of its older residents Friday night in the death of Ezra W. Butterfield, 79 years old, who passed away at his home, 123 Maple avenue, after a long illness. Death was due to heart disease from which Mr. Butterfield had suffered for a number of years. He had failed noticeably during the year preceding his death and had been confined to his bed for a period of nine weeks.
Mr. Butterfield was born in Kingsbury, N. Y., on Sept. 10 1853, and as a child came to Lake county, where the family settled on a farm on Butterfield road southwest of Libertyville. On attaining manhood he continued as a farmer and on the death of his father, became owner of one of the three farms into which the original homestead was divided.
He was married November 16, 1881, to Mary J. Allanson, and in 1895 he moved with his family to Libertyville where he built the present home on Maple avenue.
For a number of years he was in the employ of the Lake County Telephone company and later had a position with the present telephone system.
He served a number of years as a member of the village board and was a director and an active worker in the affairs of the Lake County Fair association.
Mr. Butterfield is survived by his widow, four children and four grandchildren. He leaves also one brother, Charles Butterfield of Lake Forest, and a wide circle of friends.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the home and burial followed in Lakeside cemetery.
