SOUTHBRIDGE - Henry E. Palmerino, 74, of 207 Lebanon Hill died yesterday in Harrington Memorial Hospital after he was stricken ill at home.

He leaves his wife of 47 years, Eleanor M. (Power) Palmerino; a son, Mark H. Palmerino of West Brookfield; three daughters, Anne P. Gaine and Beth A. Cournoyer, both of Southbridge, and Martha P. Garceau of Sturbridge; two brothers, Guerino and Peter Palmerino, both of Southbridge; three sisters, Angelina Confalone in Italy, Celia Levine of Roslindale and Mary Brunell of Southbridge; 12 grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Southbridge, son of Alfred and Dolores (Simonelli) Palmerino, and lived here most of his life.

Mr. Palmerino was a co-founder of Big Bunny Supermarket, which he helped to manage for many years before he retired.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European-African-Middle Eastern theater.

He was a member of St. Mary's Church and directed its renovation drive in 1988. He was a member of Cohasse Country Club, the Fraternal Order of Police Associates and the Italian-American Veterans. He was a life member of Southbridge Lions Club. Mr. Palmerino was slated to receive the Alva Gregoire Award for service to youth. Last year, he was inducted into Southbridge High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was to be the honorary chairman of the Fund Drive of St. Mary's Church next year.

The funeral will be held Monday from Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 263 Hamilton St. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are 4 to 8 p.m. tomorrow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Church, Fund Drive, 263 Hamilton St., Southbridge, 01550.
