Mr. Buddy Wayne Canada, age 78, of Crockett, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012 in the Hospice of East Texas in Tyler. He was born July 22, 1933 in Goodlett, Texas to Esker Hayden Canada and Lorene Martin of Holly Oklahoma. Buddy went to grammar school and part of high school in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He moved to Florence, Texas in 1950 and was voted Mr. FHS, junior class favorite, played football, was active in sports and developed a heart for the guitar. His main idol was Chet Atkins. After graduating high school he entered the United States Navy where he served from 1952 to 1956 on the USS Iowa during the Korean War. He received schools on sea navigation and communication and his rank of discharge was Quartermaster 3rd class. After military he entered the Nixon-Clay Business College in Austin and was involved in the circuit Rodeo. In 1957, he entered the Department of Public Safety Academy. Buddy served 27 years as a highway patrol officer and when he retired he received officer of the year. In November of 1985 he was employed by the city of Crockett as Chief of Police. In 1990, he resigned and became the director of the Senior Citizens Center of Houston County. He also did enjoyable duties for the local radio station KIVY. He was an avid bass fisherman and loved the outdoors. Buddy played the guitar once a month at the Grapeland Nutrition Center and played at the Grapeland Peanut Festival every year. He retired in Crockett for the most part of his life and was very involved with the community. Buddy was a member of the Lions Club and Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include son, Mark Canada and wife, Karen of Valdosta, Georgia; daughter, Kimberly Canada of Crockett; brother, Robert Chambers and wife, Kathryn of Georgetown; sisters, Collette Chambers Ragsdale and husband, Tommy of Florence, Evelyn Canada Newbill of Amarillo; grandchildren, Mark Allen Canada, Sabrina Canada, Madison Phillips, Emilee Phillips, Macy Walker and Jon Cornwell; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives; Special friend, Charlene Mackey of Crockett.

Preceded in death by father, Esker Hayden Canada; mother, Lorene Martin; step-father, Tony Chambers and step-daughter, Melissa Huff.

Memorial services for Mr. Buddy Wayne Canada will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Tim Allen officiating.
