She was born May 9, 1923, in Belmont, W.Va., a daughter of the late Frank and Millie (Cronin) Malone.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest T. "Ernie" Schayes on May 30, 2004; two sons, Paul A. Schayes and Ernest Lee "Red" Schayes; and 11 brothers and sisters.
Pearl was a retired head cook for the Indian Creek School System, where she worked at Mingo High School for 13 years.
She was a member of the Mingo First United Presbyterian Church. Pearl enjoyed quilting, making peanut butter fudge and playing cards with her friends.
Surviving are a daughter, Betty (Earl) Isaly of Bloomingdale, Ohio; a son, David E. (Valerie) Schayes of Mingo; five grandchildren, Paul (Mary) Grantonic, Stacy (Ben) Bryum; David (Megan Dawson) Schayes, Chad Schayes and Malissa Schayes; and three great-grandchildren, P.J. Grantonic, Marc (Erika) Grantonic and Hunter Bryum; two great-great- grandchildren, Johnathon and Colton Grantonic; and close friends, Paul and Patty Yates, Dee Barcalow, Eleanor and John Liberatore and Sandy and Dave Lamb, all of Mingo Junction.
Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
On Wednesday Pearl will Lay in State at the Mingo First United Presbyterian Church from 10 a.m. until the time of her services at 11 a.m., with Pastor Kenn Sickle, officiating.
Interment will follow at Fort Steuben Burial Estates in Wintersville.
