George T Furner
1923 ~ 2012

George T Furner, our loving father, grandfather and friend, passed away January 19, 2012, at his residence at the Courtyard at Jamestown in Provo.
He was born October 21, 1923 in Salt Lake to George Thomas and Sarah Ruth Taylor Furner. He married Beth Millar on November 1, 1948 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Beth preceded him in death on October 26, 2005. George was raised and educated in Salt Lake. He attended BYU, and the University of Utah before moving to Washington where he worked at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation, Richland, Washington as a Nuclear Chemist.

George served in the army during World War II, and was a member of the LDS Church, where he served several missions. His first mission was to the Western States Mission in 1946-48. While on his mission, he met his future wife, Beth. Even though they did not "hit it off" at first, they were brought together in a very special way after their mission and were married about 6 mo. later. George served in various callings, was a member of the Tabernacle Choir, served as a temple worker, and served two missions with his wife-a temple mission in Sydney, Australia, 1990 and a Family History mission in Salt Lake City, 1993.

He is survived by two sons and two daughters and a son-in-law: Michael G. (Diane) Furner of Spokane, WA; Susan Felch of West Richland, WA; LuAnn Furner of West Jordan; Kelly (Paula) Furner of Bonney Lake, WA; and Rick (Tamara, deceased) Tuttle of Orem; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Boyd (Burel) Furner of Provo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beth, his daughter, Tamara, and son, Jon, and by many brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held January 27, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., with a viewing at 1:00 pm., at the Aspen 6th Ward LDS Chapel, 1546 North 1100 West, Orem. Friends may call at the ward chapel, one hour prior to services. Interment, Shelley City Cemetery, Shelley, Idaho, Saturday, January 28, at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be sent to [email protected].
