FATHER OF 16 TO 1 MINE DIES AT ALLEGHANY
Thomas J. Bradbury, one of the discoverers and original owners of the famous Sixteen to One mine at Alleghany, passed away late Sunday night at his home in the little mining town. His death followed an illness of several months and was caused by heart trouble.
Born in the little town on May 3, 1868, he spent his entire life in the community. He took up mining when he completed his education in the public schools, and it was while thus engaged that he and his brothers discovered the ledge that developed into one of the most famous and richest mines in the state.
Manager for Long Period.
During all the years that the mine has been worked he has been connected with its operation. Of late years he had directed the affairs of the mine in an advisory capacity, seldom going underground. He disposed of his individual ownership of the property to the present holding company, in which he is a stockholder.
No man enjoyed a wider acquaintance in Southern Sierra county than did “Tom” Bradbury and no one was more highly esteemed. He loved the little mining camp in which he had spent his entire life. He had seen its “ups and downs” but regardless of what its apparent fortunes might be he had the faith in it that would not yield to a temptation to go elsewhere.
He had a beautiful home and was happy in his family life. A loving wife, Mrs. Lisetta Bradbury, and a daughter, Mrs. Lester L. Myers, mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father, and the community joins in extending to them its sympathy in a sorrow which they feel is its own.
The funeral will be held this afternoon in Alleghany, and will be under the auspices of the Holmes Funeral Home.
