Born March 19, 1928, in Mansfield, he was the son of Henry and Mary (Murphy) Blumenschein. A veteran of the United States Navy, Carl was the owner/operator of Ashland Rubber Mat. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, the Eagles, Country Club of Ashland and served as a volunteer at Samaritan Hospital. Carl loved to play cards, work crossword puzzles and spend time in Florida and Lake Erie at Bay Point. His greatest enjoyment, though, was spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by a son, Randy Blumenschein of The Villages, Fla.; a granddaughter, Heather (Vince) Gangi of Ashland; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and Gaylord Strine of Ashland and Margie and Lou Krieg of Loudonville; and 13 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Blumenschein; his parents; and two daughters, Cynthia Sue and Margaret Lucile.
Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today, May 29, 2012, at Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Ave., Ashland.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at the funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Jeff Messner.
Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery.
