John S. Van Marter, 70, a carpenter employed by the Drennan Hardware Company, died yesterday at his home, on the Liverpool - Euclid Road, town of Clay. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Alice Midwood Van Marter; three daughters, Mrs. William C. Matthews, Mrs. Frederick Bressette and Mrs. Gerald Pate; eight sons, John Jr., Jacob, George, Theodore, Willis, Albert, Edgar and David Van Marter; 35 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother, George B. Van Marter; two sisters, Mrs. Julia Smithers and Mrs. Ray Otten. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Carl J. Ballweg Funeral Home. Burial will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
