Amelia came to Canada in 1872 with her parents and sisters, Sarah and Harriet. After her father took ill, the family then moved back to England, where he died. One year later, in 1881, Amelia came to the USA with her widowed mother and sisters and they settled in Chicago, IL.
Amelia met George Elbert Hudson, while attending the Moody Bible Church. She was only 17 and thinking she would not get her mothers permission to marry at such a young age, they eloped to New Buffalo, MI on April 6, 1886.
The family moved to Pittsburgh, PA, and some years later Amelia's mother moved in with the family.
See a list of the children on George's memorial.
Amelia lived in Brooklyn for 24 years after George died. Then she moved to West Hartford, CT to live her remaining years with her daughter Harriet Kirby.
Amelia is buried near her mother and young sons, as well as her husband.
