Leota was a kind and wonderful woman with many tales of a widow raising her family after 1942. It is claimed she retreated to northern California in World War II to get her daughters away from the sailors in Long Beach. She was never far from her Holy Bible, and welcomed by all as she wandered from child to child helping raise her grandchildren too. An extremely religious Baptist, the intensity of her faith varies from telling to telling.
No matter how poor her existence, her grandchild could remember a birthday card with a dollar bill in it as soon as they could read, and every year after. That would have been 32 cards according to some sources.
Her first marriage was to Elic Alexander June 23, 1909 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Her second to William Curry was November 6, 1924 in Santa Ana, California. She was a hard worker with pioneer roots from a sod house dug into the American prairie.
