Frank A. Burr, 86, of 927 Pavone, Benton Harbor retired veteran insurance man died at the Berrien County Hospital in Berrein Center Sunday afternoon after a week's serious illness. He had been in failing health for the past year and a half.
Born in Hartford on Nov. 7, 1860. Mr. Burr came to Benton Harbor in 1862 and had lived there for 85 continous years.
He was the son of the late Cushan S. Burr who was Benton Harbor town marshall in the 80's.
For almost a century he watched Benton Harbor grow from a small community to a thriving city and there were few events of historical interest which happened there during his lifetime that he couldn't recall.
As a young man he worked for the Edick & Vincent Hardware Co. which had a store where the Kresge store is now located.
Mr. Burr was a past chancellor commander and charter member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge in Benton Harbor.
He leaves his widow Mrs. Mary Burr, a son Frank C. Burr veteran Benton Harbor postal employee who resides in St. Joseph, a daughter Mrs. B. F. (Alice) Tillstrom wife of Dr. Tillstrom Chicago Chiropodist and the following step-children, Mrs. Robert Watts, Benton Harbor, Mrs. Ralphe Choate and Campbell Stevens, St. Joseph, Mrs. Seth Virgo Plymouth, Mich.
There also are eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Slaughter & Hill Funeral Home on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with burial in the family lot in Morton Hill Cemetery.
