On 1880 census, listed as school teacher. Death index lists father as Jas M White. (Death index also gives year of death as 1919, but stone says 1918.)

His published obituary appeared in the 10/8/1919 Atlanta Constitution, p.9 & p.24. His tombstone is incorrect regarding year of death.

James graduated from the University of Georgia in 1869 as an honor student. Became a school teacher and later was principal of high schools in Forsyth, Jones, Butler and the Boys' High School in Atlanta. Later went into business as a loan broker. Married Mary Strother Royston, December 12, 1870, in Monroe County, Georgia.
