Utah's parents were Samuel and Sarah (Strong) Wilson. Her siblings were William, Jacob, Susan, Lucinda "Jane," Mary Ann, and James. She married Michael William Hoover and had 7 children:
Sarah Elizabeth born 1875 in Iowa
Ettie born 1877 in Iowa
Edna born 1879 in Iowa
Samuel James born 1882 in Iowa
George William born 1884 in Oregon
Charles Henry born 1885 in Oregon
Mable Martha born 1887 in Washington

(Below is what I put together for my great grandmother. Some has been proven; other things came from memories passed on to me from my grandmother.)
Utah was born to Samuel and Sarah (Strong) Wilson on January 1, 1859 on land in Illinois along the Mississippi River. In the 1860 census she was living in Drury, Rock Island County, IL so probably she was born in Rock Island County. She was born into a large family, William, Jacob, Susan, Lucinda Jane, Mary Ann and James Samuel. The story goes that her father Samuel died after a flash flood flooded their farm. This would have been after the 1860 census, and probably about 1861. I can't find a record of his death or where he is buried. Utah's grandmother who was of the Mormon faith went to Salt Lake City with the group that left Nauvoo, Illinois in 1847. I was told she ask her daughter Sarah to name her baby girl "Utah."

By 1870 census Sarah had taken her family to Plymouth County, Iowa and at that time she just has Utah, age 11 and James age 15, living with her. The other children had married, Susan in 1857, William in 1862, Mary Ann in 1865 and Lucinda Jane in 1865. I have heard that Jacob died of a chest wound in the Civil War. Susan married George Gibbens, William married Edith Wallace, L. Jane married Jonas Johnson and Mary Ann married John Jennings.

Utah married Michael Hoover, son of James and Elizabeth (Johnson) Hoover about 1874. By the 1800 census Utah has her mother, Sarah living with her and Michael and their children.

Sarah wrote a letter to her brother in Utah in 1880 with family news.
She tells about selling their farm and moving soon. She states "I make my home with Utah. She had three little girls but God called the second one home to him last August the 22. She was two years four months old."

Utah and Michael had 7 children. The little girl that Sarah mentioned in her above letter was Ettie and she was born April 1877 and died 22 Aug 1879. Her first child, Sarah Elizabeth was born 14 of July 1875 and her third child, my grandmother, Edna born 23 Feb 1879. All three of these girls were born in Iowa. I think about 1880 Utah and Michael and the girls came out to Oregon. I have been told Utah didn't like it in Oregon so they went back to Iowa. Samuel James was born in Polk County, Iowa on 27 Dec 1882.
Their second trip out to Oregon was before George William was born on 2 July 1884 in Clackamas County, Oregon. Charles Henry was born 28 Aug 1885 in Marion County, Oregon. They then moved to Ostrander, Washington where Mable Martha was born on 25 Sep 1887. In Ostrander they had a Government land claim of 160 acres which they settled on in Dec of 1886.

In the 1900 census this family is still living in Ostrander. The oldest two girls have married. Sarah Elizabeth married Frank Newstrum in 1892 and Edna had married George Carroll in 1896.

Samuel James married Nellie Ann Blaue 27 Dec 1905, George William married Agnes L. Howard on 2 Feb 1907, Charles Henry married Mary Lenora Stewart on 20 Mar 1910 and Mable Martha married Arthur Howard on 14 Jan 1904.

In the Kelsonion Newspaper dated January 2, 1907 it states "M. W. Hoover and family of Ostrander have moved to Kelso where they have purchased a home." In 1910, 1920 and 1930 census Michael and Utah are living alone in their Kelso home.
